iDither release notes
BETA VERSIONV7.0.18
What’s new in the latest version
- New calibrations use the rounded Dense Rings prism at 0.12 mm, 5% infill and Auto brim, with a verified slicer estimate of 3 h 13 min 3 s. Its 88 wall patches include twelve directed gradients and the original bottom 4.08 mm pure outer/inner ordered-pair band. Three similar-width perimeter rings, six exact 50/50 pairs and four central pure-filament patches provide 58 top samples, using two colored layers at 0.30 mm line width. Full-width horizontal markers identify the three sides; one marker orients the triangular top. Four photos can arrive in any order or orientation, and earlier calibration profiles remain compatible. Physical print time and color accuracy remain to be measured.
- CMY+White and CMY+Black now share independent wall layer-pattern rules: mixed outer words allow runs of at most two layers, mixed inner words allow three, and both checks include the repeat seam. Pure walls and all ordered outer/inner filament combinations remain available. Native and browser analysis construct exact-count legal words, browser and server exports validate them, and photo calibration excludes incompatible historical wall observations without rewriting stored profiles or pictures.
- The Calibrate tab and prism guide now show an interactive 3D prism with rotation, pan, zoom, touch controls, and side/top views. Four filament selectors recolor it immediately, default to CMY + White, and retain choices during the browser session. The preview uses illustrative blends and renders only when needed. Named calibration profiles retain all four original photos and appear below Use my colors during model analysis.
- All calibration cube downloads now use 5% sparse infill and Auto brim. Detailed 0.10 mm, Medium detail 0.12 mm, Fast 0.14 mm, and the retired 0.20 mm comparison keep their two solid colored top layers and solid foundation. Original CMY+Black and CMY+White downloads are updated too. Saved calibration reference files remain usable; new uploads record the updated cube process.
- Calibration downloads now offer Detailed at 0.10 mm, Medium detail at 0.12 mm, and Fast at 0.14 mm. The new medium cube has 250 uniform layers, two 0.12 mm colored top layers at 0.30 mm line width, and thin horizontal identification strips with no added volume. Its supplied PLA process estimates 4 h 20 m 19 s, between Detailed at 5 h 18 m 20 s and Fast at 3 h 41 m 45 s. Photo samples retain their exact layer-height context, and existing profile references remain usable. The 0.20 mm comparison is retired from new calibration choices after print feedback; medium print quality remains to be tested.
- Added Calibrate and Dither workflow tabs, with Dither open by default. Download a four-color calibration cube, name the calibration, and submit photos of its four sides and top in any order or rotation. Photo measurements and originals are stored privately on the server; small .iDither reference files and browser storage restore saved calibrations. Named photo-calibration rows appear below Use my colors during analysis, carrying their measured recipe library and print-context limitations through previews and exports. Photo-derived color estimates depend on camera, lighting and print settings; physical color-accuracy validation remains open.
- Added one universal 30 mm calibration cube for any four physical filament colors. The mixed colors follow the four Snapmaker Orca slot colors automatically. Face and orientation codes use thin horizontal strips near the bottom and top, with no raised or vertical markers; the included PLA process estimates 5 h 18 m 20 s. The top retains two colored layers at 0.30 mm line width. A download page includes optional contrast strips and a five-photo registration kit; physical print and real-camera validation remain open.
- Top Surface Interweave now combines colors through the top two eligible layers, with the upper layer using the saved outer-wall pattern and the layer beneath using the matching inner-wall pattern. Complete native recipe order and counts are preserved at aligned XY positions. Top surface line width is 0.30 mm; both color layers use dense fill, supported by one dense layer beneath them with inherited interior materials. Unpaired rows retain saved calibrated area allocation. Perimeter, bottom, first-layer and thin-part protections remain active, including with Take Interior Paths Off. Re-export existing 3MFs to apply the change; older cached Top-On downloads are regenerated.
- Fixed Top Surface Interweave printing only the backing color with Take Interior Paths Off on painted meshes, including single-wall repeating recipes with Dual Wall Mixing Off. Physical top colors now retain their assignments on the same saved layer planes. Source paint, wall recipes, the colored wall band, backing and bottom settings remain in the export; earlier cached top-interweave downloads are regenerated.
- Fixed Top Surface Interweave rejecting newly analyzed single-wall recipes with a missing saved calibrated appearance. Browser analysis, deferred and custom palette rows, saved shares and server custom-palette records now retain the exact assignment Oklab values from the color core. Updated clients can re-analyze an older incomplete row once to save the required appearance.
- Fixed Take Interior Paths export failing on dense textured reliefs. Shared-edge rounding no longer falsely opens a closed model, material joins remove exact redundant edges, and expanded geometry streams directly through compression to avoid browser memory failures. Failed writes stop the export, and export errors show their actual reason. Source paint, recipe words and Colored Walls remain preserved; earlier cached downloads are regenerated.
- The Windows publisher now validates the current public share APIs instead of overwriting them from a retired API directory. This prevents stale endpoints from rejecting Texture Optimization assets with Invalid derived-share asset name. Upload errors also identify the asset and chunk that failed.
- Dual Wall Mixing now defaults to On for new analyses and on the homepage, even when the saved example was generated with it Off. Explicit shared links retain their saved setting, and existing analysis metadata keeps the mode actually analyzed.
- Fixed Take Interior Paths creating extra wall stacks inside colored models. Standard fixed-height and Variable Optical Layers exports now bound the colored material bands to the requested Colored Walls count and carry their matching colors into fill-only interior parts with zero wall loops. The retained source mesh also has zero wall loops, so small material-boundary gaps cannot start another stack. Both browser and server exports preserve the exact outer and inner recipe words, and earlier cached downloads are regenerated. Actual G-code checks cover 1, 2, 3 and 6 colored walls through broad color regions; corner joins and thin features remain governed by the slicer. Front Only and native Subdivide Mix Layer keep their existing transports.
- Added Texture Optimization to Advanced Settings, On by default for new analyses. CMY+White and CMY+Black inspect the whole texture and model surface before cleaning up colors close to Black, White, Cyan, Magenta or Yellow. Smooth gradients remain protected. Regions close to a loaded physical filament use that filament directly, including with CMYK Optimized and Dual Wall Mixing On, so a near-black outline can print with pure Black instead of mixed-color specks. CMY+White keeps dark regions within its available filament recipes.
- Texture Optimization keeps the source texture intact and records its setting in saved analyses, share links, palette recalculation and generated 3MF metadata. Changing it enables Re-Analyze. Earlier saved analyses retain Off until analyzed again.
- Take Interior Paths now uses Colored Walls throughout export and color merging. One wall uses the single-wall word for its perimeter and infill; two or more retain the outer wall and repeat the inner word for additional walls and infill. Export metadata records the requested count, and cached downloads from the earlier interior-path policy are regenerated.
- CMY+Black post-calibration results are now official and non-provisional by user approval, effective for all layer heights, all wall thicknesses and every Advanced Settings configuration. The 45 accepted exact recipes retain their measured color values. Analysis, cache identities and browser/server 3MF diagnostics carry the official policy, including Variable Optical Layers and Take Interior Paths.
- Retained the original post-calibration photo audit, exact recipe identities, source files and quality exclusion records for reproducibility.
- Added Take Interior Paths to Advanced Settings, On by default. Exterior color regions extend through the interior and matching layer colors merge into longer paths. Off retains the colored wall band and its usual backing. The option applies to new 3MF and G-code downloads without Re-Analyze, respects separate outer/inner wall recipes, and retains the saved top/bottom shell settings, Front Only and native mixed sublayer execution. Generated cavity surfaces inherit exterior colors while keeping their support blockers.
- CMY+Black now chooses outer and inner wall recipes independently. Mixed outer walls use runs of at most two layers, mixed inner walls allow three, and both limits include the seam where the recipe repeats. Pure walls remain available: matching pure regions use the physical filament directly, while a pure outer wall can combine with a mixed inner wall to fill more of the color gaps. The selected outer and inner patterns are preserved in the generated 3MF.
- Added three provisional color observations from the first gradient print for their exact five-wall recipes, with one outer and four inner colored walls, 0.30 mm wall widths, 0.10 mm uniform layers and Yellow interior. Changed patterns or print settings reject those observations. The existing pure filament calibration, including Black, remains unchanged because the first photographs did not provide consistent endpoint measurements.
- Color analysis and 3MF diagnostics now distinguish the requested wall stack, the measured calibration basis, derived predictions and direct photo observations. Empirical usage counts the measured color basis when it is used, and the confidence label names basis confidence. Calibration backing is retained as historical provenance; with Take Interior Paths Off, generated interiors use Yellow for CMY+Black and Magenta for CMY+White.
- Added Color Threshold to Advanced Settings: a slider from Best Color (0) to Fastest Print (10), default 4. Snapmaker Orca prints every separate color patch with its own walls on each layer, so print time follows the number of patches rather than tool changes. Toward Fastest Print, analysis merges specks and similar colors into their neighbors so each layer prints fewer, longer runs of one filament; clearly different details larger than the level's protected area are always kept. The preview, match percentage and 3MF paint all show the simplified result. On the mask test model the default cuts the estimated print time from 11h26m to 9h27m, and level 10 to 5h56m. An analysis records its level, so changing it asks for Re-Analyze.
- Generated 3MF files now set Filament for Features (Walls, Infill and Solid Infill) to Yellow on every CMY+Black row and to Magenta on every CMY+White row, instead of Black and White, so the uncolored walls behind the colored ones and the model's infill print in that filament. The filament is matched by its color, so it stays Yellow or Magenta in whichever slot an edited palette puts it; other palettes keep filament 1. Cached 3MF files are regenerated.
- Fixed generated 3MF files standing a relief or other flat-backed model on its edge when the model was authored a degree or two off-axis. Auto-orientation dropped the exact direction of a flat face whenever it lay within 2.6 degrees of an axis and used the axis instead, which left the far edge of a 100 mm back several millimetres above the bed, so the model scored as floating. A face's exact direction now yields only to a candidate within 0.26 degrees. Rotated by up to 12 degrees before export, three bas-relief test models now lie flat in 30 of 30 trials, up from 19 of 30. Models authored square to the axes keep exactly the pose they had, including all 24 test models. Cached 3MF files are regenerated.
- Colored Walls in Advanced Settings is now a number field: type any whole number of walls from 1 to 1000 instead of picking 1 to 8. Type more walls than the model can hold and the generated 3MF fills it with colored walls: paint runs all the way into the model and every wall loop is colored, with no uncolored walls and no sparse infill left in its core. A model holds as many walls as fit into half the narrower side of its footprint on the plate. Counts the model can hold export exactly as before, and cached 3MF files are regenerated.
- Fixed generated 3MF files standing some flat models diagonally on the plate. Auto-orientation counted only surfaces within 0.2 mm of the model's lowest point as bed contact, so a nearly flat face resting on a small bump, such as the spiral centre of a lollipop disc, counted as floating, and the exporter preferred a pose balanced on a single facet of the rim: the lollipop stood 50.7 mm tall with its stick in the air instead of lying 6.5 mm flat. Surfaces within 0.5 mm of the lowest point now count as contact, because they print on the raft within the first few layers. Of 24 test models, only the affected lollipops and one skull scan with no flat base change pose. The server and in-browser exporters now also pick the same pose: the server grouped face directions slightly differently and flipped upside-down models about another axis, so the same model could be oriented differently depending on where its 3MF was built (4 of the 24 test models, including this lollipop). Cached 3MF files are regenerated.
- Generated 3MF files with 3 or more Walls print far fewer uncolored walls behind the colored ones. Each painted color patch is walled from all of its edges, so the colored band no longer needs Wall loops = N: the band now holds exactly the requested walls plus one closing line, Wall loops is set to (N + 1) / 2 rounded up, and the uncolored walls behind the band drop to that count. At Walls = 6 that is 11 wall lines instead of 15, with the first 6 printed exactly as before; the mask test model drops from 10h35m to 9h38m. Nothing is added to the 3MF, 1 and 2 walls are unchanged, and cached 3MF files are regenerated.
- Dual Wall Mixing now decides exported wall thickness on its own for CMY+White and CMY+Black: On always uses 0.30/0.30 mm walls, at every Walls setting and whichever colors the palette uses; Off always keeps the default 0.42/0.45 mm walls. Exported 3MF cache identity changed, so archives built by an earlier build are regenerated.
- With Dual Wall Mixing On, CMY+White and CMY+Black now use their measured two-wall calibration throughout analysis, including the CMYK Optimized palette pre-selection that still used the older Plate 1 and Plate 2 (CMY+Black) and black-backing (CMY+White) plates. Analysis details name the two-wall table, and a declared pass order no longer changes any color. Previous analyses are recalculated on the next Analyze.
- Customized and previewed palettes now rebuild with the analysis Walls, Layer Height and Variable Optical Layers settings, so a Dual Wall Mixing palette no longer falls back to a one-wall color domain when a color is edited, and native results keep the analyzed outer and inner wall words. A browser color engine older than this website is now refused with a rebuild-and-deploy message instead of producing single-wall palettes.
- CMY+White and CMY+Black now use their measured calibration with Dual Wall Mixing On and Off, in both CMYK Optimized modes, and at both 0.30/0.30 and 0.42/0.45 mm walls. With Dual Wall Mixing On and CMYK Optimized Off, palette search scores the rows with the measured colors instead of the uncalibrated mixing model. A CMY+Black color from an analysis made at another Walls setting or before this calibration is no longer re-solved at export against the old provisional two-wall model; like CMY+White, it keeps one pattern on every wall, whose appearance is measured. With Dual Wall Mixing Off, CMY+White analysis details now name its single-wall calibration, and 3MF notes no longer call calibrated 0.30/0.30 exports provisional.
- Calibrated CMY+Black from its own measurements, the same way as CMY+White. With Dual Wall Mixing Off (or one colored wall), every CMY+Black color now mixes the four measured single-wall black, cyan, magenta and yellow endpoints, in both CMYK Optimized modes. With Dual Wall Mixing On and two or more colored walls, analysis chooses measured ordered outer/inner wall pairs, and the 3MF carries those exact wall words on the measured 0.30/0.30 mm wall stack, like CMY+White. Previous analyses are recalculated on the next Analyze.
- Completed the four-toolhead CMYK Optimized two-palette shortcut in browser analysis. Both browser and native analysis score only CMY+White and CMY+Black, skip spatial finalist reranking, and retain calibrated winner preview and print assignments. Optimized Off keeps the full search. Recommendation metadata identifies pre-spatial scores; no fixed timing guarantee is claimed.
- Integrated the exact CMYW-026 RAW ordered outer/inner calibration for CMY+White over black backing. The profile measures 0.30/0.30 mm walls and is also used for 0.42/0.45 mm walls by explicit geometry-reuse policy. Recipes, numerical cache identity and export metadata now identify this dataset.
